Betting leaders set out code for fixed odds gaming

The heads of Britain’s biggest bookmakers have mounted a passionate defence of the industry in response to a growing furore over fixed odds gaming machines.

In a letter published on The Telegraph website, the bosses of Gala Coral, Ladbrokes, Paddy Power, William Hill and Betfred spell out measures being introduced this week to ensure that punters who use contentious Fixed Odds Betting Terminals (FOBTs) in high street bookmakers do so “responsibly”.

The betting chiefs are speaking out in the face of swelling support for banning or limiting the machines, which have been dubbed the “crack cocaine of gambling” by opponents who claim they are highly addictive.
