Bookies open 260 new shops in nine months to cash in on ‘crack cocaine’ gaming machines

Up to 260 betting shops have opened in just nine months as bookies fear a clampdown on their gaming machines.

Punters can potentially lose £300 a minute playing fixed odds betting terminals and each shop can have four of the machines.

But the Campaign for Fairer Gambling is calling for new restrictions, branding Britain’s 33,000 terminals the “crack cocaine of gambling”.
