Bookies see £176m rise in cash staked on casino-style terminals dubbed the ‘crack cocaine’ of gambling

CASH staked on controversial gambling machines in Scottish bookies soared by a staggering £176million last year, a survey claims.

The total amount staked on the casino-type fixed odds betting terminals (FOBT) was an astonishing £4.4billion.

That is the equivalent of £1057 for every adult in the country.

In Ireland, politicians have moved to outlaw the machines, which have been branded the crack cocaine of gambling.
