City chiefs to act on ‘crack cocaine’ betting machines

Town hall chiefs are considering writing to ministers over fears that ‘dangerous’ high-stakes gambling machines are taking over the city’s high streets.

Labour campaigners in Manchester council want a motion put before the authority’s next full meeting, calling for a crackdown on fixed-odds betting terminals (FOBTs) – dubbed the ‘crack cocaine’ of gambling.
