Hyndburn MP highlights worries over fixed odds gambling machines

AN MP has highlighted ‘worrying’ new research into fixed odds gambling machines.

Hyndburn and Haslingden MP Graham Jones said a survey from the Commission of Fairer Gambling uncovered concerns regarding the betting terminals.

The survey involved 501 betting shop customers and is said to be the first probe into use of the machines since the 2010 British Gambling Prevalence Survey.

Mr Jones said: “The results are quite worrying. It shows the poorest people in society stake on average £19 per 20-second spin and, on average, lose £55. Almost one in five are inserting over £100.
